If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?
If I had to let go of one word I use too often, it would be “sorry.” I’ve noticed I say it even when there’s nothing to apologize for—like bumping into someone slightly, asking a question, or even taking up space. Over time, it feels like the word has become more of a reflex than a genuine expression.
Letting go of “sorry” would mean creating space for stronger words. I could say “thank you” instead—“thank you for waiting” instead of “sorry I’m late.” It shifts the tone from guilt to gratitude, and that feels much more uplifting.
I believe the words we use shape how we see ourselves, so giving up “sorry” would be my way of speaking with more confidence and intention.
